RecoverySky Required Email Verification
Why RecoverySky Now Requires Email Verification
TL;DR: The only purpose of the new email verification requirement is to confirm that the email address you signed up with is correct, so you can always log back in. That's it.
Until now, RecoverySky did not require email verification, a choice I made in favor of privacy. Unfortunately, this allowed many users to accidently sign up with an invalid email address, usually because of a simple typo. That causes a lot of confusion when they later tried to log back in, and password reset links were sent to addresses that don't exist. This new requirement is cleaning that mess up,
To make signing in even simpler, I've also added passwordless login: instead of a password, you receive a one-time code by email. This is a standard approach, but it means you need access to your email account to log in. Anyone with a typo in their email address would be locked out the next time they had to sign in, or they would sign in with their correct email and have lost all their attendance and reports. That seams really bad, and this new requirement will keep that from happening.
In other words, my leniency in the name of privacy led to both login confusion and a serious flaw that could lock many people out of their accounts. For RecoverySky to be safe, secure, reliable, and easy to use, email verification has to be required.
As for placing your verified email address in my hands: thank you. That trust is something I deeply respect and have worked very hard to protect. If I had any interest in making money by selling email addresses, I would not have put in the work to build a HIPAA-compliant cloud network and app. My only interest is in creating a platform for online recovery that can serve the still-suffering long into the future. That is my legacy.
I am not the kind of person who would betray people who come here expecting anonymity. I spend my days and nights trying to help them.
There is also no advertising in RecoverySky. There never has been and there never will be, even though it could make money. I find ads in software distasteful and will never be a part of that, let alone sell email addresses into it. It will never happen.
Thanks for reading this far! If you have questions, please email support@recoverysky.app or leave a comment below.
Sincerely, Jenova
